Drill Bit Sets: An Essential kit for every family

You have brought a beautiful painting for your living room, but the problem is that you are not finding a suitable way to hang it on the wall. If you share this problem with any of your friends, he will obviously first look with surprise towards you and then making fun of your intelligence he will suggest you to take a hammer and make a hole in the wall and hang that painting on the wall. It is now here when your times start to laugh at him, because it is the solution which you had learned from your childhood, but as you are concerned about the appearance of your wall which might get damaged due to forceful hit by a hammer, you are hunting for a solution which could help you in hanging the new painting brought by you on wall for enhancing the interior of your living room.

Once your friend understands your problem, I am sure he will also for a minute bite his nails for finding the solution of your problem. Well, an answer to your problem is drilling machine which is mainly used for making deep holes at different places. Use of drilling machine for making a hole in the wall might surprise you as since you have grown you had seen drilling machines for making holes in the road for configuring different types of cables and pipes.  So, now using a drilling machine just for making a hole in the wall might surprise you and moreover the drilling machines which have seen at road for drilling purpose and now hiring such machines for your personal use might not be feasible for you.

But the truth is not that, drilling machines are although meant for drilling deep holes on grounds and other hard elements, but for domestic purpose there are different types of drill bit sets available in the market which are specifically developed for residential purposes. The major benefit of using the spiral bits developed from steel is that they are able to drill different elements like wall, wood, stained glass, etc., but are not able to drill metal items and for that you will require different type of drill set.

So coming to benefit which you enjoy by making use of spiral drill is that it does not spoil the appearance of your wall, generally when you hit the wall with a hammer it also creates certain lines of cracks on the area surrounded by hole. But, when you make a hole by drilling machine, it only penetrates at the point on which you apply the pressure, without doing  any harm to the area close to it.

The size of these drills varies from eight millimeters to thirty two millimeters and depending upon the requirement you can make the necessary hole at desired place. One more interesting feature of drills is that they work as a screw driver and therefore if you buy a drill with strong bits on it with rounded shank then you can also use it as a screw driver.

Similarly, if you wish to install a designer mirror in your washroom then for drilling hole in mirrors you will require a drill which has a diamond studded bits on it. The diamond sintered at the top of drill helps in making holes easily in a glass. In simple words, it can be said that availability of drill bit sets in the market for domestic purpose has made the task home owners an easy job in accomplishing those tasks for they require the need of an expert carpenter.

Common Drill Bits for Household Drilling Needs

If you are an unprofessional, then drill a hole into any material or surface is really a daunting task for you. And drilling a perfect hole doesn’t need the professional skills every time. A right bit and right technique is all about the perfect drilling, which you can achieve through collecting information about the types of drill bits and how you can drill precise holes.

Generally, home related drilling jobs are centric to attaching fixtures, fitting wires, or building a cabinet. Some kind of high-speed steel bits and masonry bits are enough to meet the requirement. But, if your needs are going to drill into hard or sophisticated materials, then you need the high-end tools which are designed specifically for the intended purpose.

If you are buying a quality bit, then always place them in a box after use to avoid any damage to the tip and the edges. Keeping it in the open may reduce the sharpness of the edges, thus, can affect the accuracy during the drilling process. It is advised to sharp the bits before it gets blunt completely.

Let’s discuss about the most common type of bit which can be found in every house- the twist bit. If you don’t have this bit in your home arsenal, then buy it and fulfill your drilling needs with efficiency. You can use this bit on varieties of materials which are common in the home and the requirement to cut them can also appear anytime.

These bits are made from high-speed steel and carbon steel. You can choose the one drill bit which can best meet your needs. For instance, if you want to cut wooden surface, then carbon steel is the right choice for you. Otherwise, you will have to choose high-speed steel to cut metal surfaces. Titanium nitride coating on these bits makes them durable and is effective for cutting small holes. You cannot bore large holes using this bit.

The availability of various sizes gives you the opportunity to cut varied small sizes holes. However, you will have to give extra care to the smallest size of bits, because they are very thin and brittle while operating.

Apart from these, masonry drill bits are used widely in DIY jobs for boring holes in concrete wall for attaching fixture or fixing wires.

Common Drill Bits for Three Common Materials, Choose Appropriate One

The market of drilling tool is huge with varieties of drill bit sets, each is meant to cut specific type of material. What bit you are selecting totally depends on your drilling requirement. The most common tasks arrive in front of everyone regarding the drilling are probably for building a cabinet, attaching a fixture into a wall, cutting a metal to fit a screw, etc. So, wood, concrete, block, bricks, and metals are the most common types of materials which can be drilled even by an unprofessional at home.

You also need to find out the right bit for your need, because every bit is designed to solve a specific type of need. Let’s shed some light on the right type of bit for various types of materials, such as metal, wood and concrete.

Bits for Wooden Surfaces:

Wooden surfaces can be drilled through varieties of bits available in the market. Generally, bits made up of steel are good enough for cutting wooden surfaces and they also cost affordable. Low-carbon and high-carbon steels are the most common materials for using in the bits for boring holes in softwood and hardwood respectively. Auger, twist, and brad point bits are the most popular for wooden drilling.

Bits for Concrete:

Concrete is the hard material which is a mix of crushed stone, gravel, and sand. To bore a hole into such surfaces, you need a bit made of hard material, which can beat the hardness of the concrete. Masonry bits are used for this purpose which are manufactured from steel and have a coating of tungsten carbide.

Bit for Metal Surfaces:

If you are going to drill into metal surfaces, then you have a wide range of options- from high-speed steel to cobalt and carbide bits. If you are drilling the hardest metal surfaces, then you can choose cobalt bit. You can choose carbide drill bits for heavy industrial applications, especially in the industry of manufacturing, mining, construction, etc. But, if your prime objective is drilling into hard metals for DIY job, then it is good to choose cobalt or high-speed steel.

These are the three types of materials which can be found everywhere and the need to cut them can also occur anytime. There are lots of other materials as well, which can be drilled through special types of bits. These materials include gemstone, bone, shell, tiles, plastic, ceramic, glass, etc. You just need to find the right bit to cut an accurate hole of desired size in a specific type of material.

After all, to finish every industrial job, you need several types of cutting tools, lathe, welding equipments, and several other machinery devices.

One of the core equipments in every industry is none other than the drill bits for boring holes in varieties of materials. Whether it is about attaching a fixture, building a cabinet, or cutting a metal- you need a specific it to bore accurate hole of desired size. Understand the structure of a drill bit is not an easy task for a non-professional. You need professional to finish a drilling job, but some home renovation work is good to handle by yourself which includes drilling too. So, you should collect some basic knowledge about the bits for not getting trapped by the machine shops during the purchase and then avoid any inconvenience and mistakes during the drilling.

The most common types of materials which are used to build these bits are steel and carbide. Various forms of these materials are used to manufacture specific types of bits for specific purposes. If your objective is boring into softwood, then low-carbon steel is the perfect pick for you, but for hardwood, you should go for the high-carbon steel.

If you are looking for something more efficient than carbon steel for drilling into thin or soft metals, then you should look for the high speed drill bits. Its heat-resistant feature increases its life by reducing the chances of cracks and damages while cutting at high speed which creates high temperature between the bit and the metal surface.
If you want to go for something sturdy in nature which would be meant for heavy-duty applications, then cobalt and carbide bits are the right choice. However, these are the drilling tools used widely by professionals. They are expensive, despite cost reasonable due to low operational cost. Learn about the Materials to Opt for the Right Drill Bit Set

Every drilling tool has own nature and perform accordingly. Every type of industrial job needs different drill bit sets to bore a perfect-sized hole with no damage.  Several materials are used to manufacture these bits which come in several shapes and sizes to offer you the best result in terms of precision. Therefore, you need to choose the right tool made up of the right material, which is possible only if you have some basic knowledge of drill bit materials.

Several types of metals are used to design the bits and each metal is capable to solve specific types of drilling requirement. Let’s take an overview of these metals and their respective materials on which you can perform drilling.
Low carbon Steel:

If softwood can be drilled efficiently, then it is only through low carbon steel bits. These bits cost very affordable, but needs to sharpen often for longevity. Don’t try to drill hardwood or metal through this metal’s bit.

High Carbon Steel:

This metal can withstand the high temperature and thus can be drilled into hardwood and thin metal without any frequent need of sharpening. They are almost identical in price with low carbon steel, and hence, is widely used for the purpose of basic drilling as well.

High-Speed Steel:

Bits made of very hard carbon steel is generally referred as high-speed steel bits. These bits are manufactured to tolerate the very high temperature more efficiently than high carbon steel. This is the reason, you can cut a metal on high drilling speed without damaging the surface and the bit. It could be the reason this bit is named High-Speed.

Carbide:

This material is very strong and is perfect for drilling into harder metal. This material can dissipate the heat very well. However, this is fragile and can damage easily. Hence, it is used on the tip of the bit. So, you can use carbide tipped bit to create accurate hole in harder metal surfaces.

Cobalt:

Very thick metals such as stainless steel, cast iron can be drilled efficiently through cobalt drill bit. Cobalt is vulnerable to heat damage. However, the harder material it is, the brittle it is in characteristic. So, use the bits made of cobalt very carefully to avoid any damage.

Drill bits are used to drill holes into a variety of surfaces, from masonry to stone, wood to steel. Hence, you should be very careful in the selection and give proper time to research to find the right tool for your purpose.

In this modern age, machinery tools are no more limited to professionals only. Common men are also bringing those tools at home for managing lots of work by own. Now, people prefer finishing home renovation work by own and they tried to avoid calling experts for every single job. This DIY time has brought drill bit sets into home for meeting with several boring jobs. Whether it is about building a cabinet for your garden or about attaching a fixture in the wall- these tasks can be completed by yourself with little learning and proper care.

If you collect the basic knowledge of the bits, their types, and how to use them, then you can create an accurate hole with proper finishing without damaging the bit and the drilling object. Let’s understand the type of material to find out the right type of bit for a right type of hole in specific material surface.

If a bit is made from the steel, then it can cut softwood precisely. On the other side, high-carbon steel works well on hardwood, fiberglass, PVC, and soft metals. These materials can resist the heat effectively. This heat-tolerant capability makes this bit durable on high temperature. Cobalt drill bit with its hardened nature is best for drilling into hard metals. It can resist the heat in a much better way than other bits. Thus, it can maintain its sharpness at high temperature, which is generated during the drilling process due to friction. A carbide-tipped bit on the other side is perfect for drilling into the hardened materials like masonry and tile, and stone.

The angle of the bit point also helps in deciding the right type of drill for a right hole. If a bit point has an angle of 135-degree (Flatter Points), then bits with this point angle work best on harder materials. Bits with steeper points which has 118-degree angles can bore into softer materials excellently. For precise holes, bits with split-point tip can offer the best result.

Overall, the basic knowledge can help you in getting the best type of bit for drilling an accurate size of the hole. Considering these basic things, you can now buy the right type of drill bit for your DIY (Do It Yourself) projects.

Carbide Drill Bits for Boring hardened Metals with Precision

Whenever you find that your home’s arsenal needs a tool for anchoring into cured concrete or in some other hardened metals, then you should buy a right drill bit for boring and reaming job. Here, you need a drilling tool which can be used on hardened materials. Carbide drill bit can make it possible, which is best suitable for high-production applications, and is widely used by locksmiths, auto mechanics or any operators for drilling into hardened materials.

The carbide itself has the quality of dissipating the heat, which makes it prone to damage. So, the drills made from this material can perform brilliantly on hardened steel. However, when you begin the drilling process, you should keep the speed of spindle slow. At a moderate pressure, this drill can bore accurate holes. However, you can cut the metals at high speed as well. It can also extend the life of the tool with its characteristic of hardness. However, it is rigid, but brittle also which can make it different in its own way.

This bit can be used where accuracy and rigidity matters. To maintain the lubricity and keep the bit cool, you should use some oil while drilling through. It is really a tough job finding the hardened steel. Bolts, screws, freeze plugs, bearing races, safes, shafts, gears, etc. are a few hardened steel.

It is brittle, hence generally used on the tip of the bit. You can use it in various production level applications. However, they are expensive, but you can make it your favorite drilling tool because of its long lifespan and durability. Its heat resistance capability makes it durable enough for enduring the high temperature, which in turn extends the life of the bit. Thus, the operational and maintenance cost becomes low. Thus, you can choose carbide tipped bit for a feasible solution, despite its expensive price tag.

The machine shops are flooded with several types of drill bits. You should pick the right type of bit for a right type of hole with proper finishing and accuracy. You can now shop them online as well at more reasonable rates. But, do a proper check for finding the reliability of stores.

How Step Drill can bore a precise hole?

Every type of drilling work can be done efficiently using the right tool. Well, picking the best appropriate tool is a daunting task until you are unfamiliar from the characteristic of the drill bits. Plenty of bits are available in machine shops which are intended for various drilling purposes. Some of them are used to bore holes in concrete or brick walls while some are designed for drilling in wooden surfaces, named masonry and auger bits respectively.

Plenty of others are also out there. Let’s have an introductory discussion about the step drill. This bit is used on metal surfaces and you need to apply desired pressure and can start drilling at a slower speed for an accurate hole. Using this bit, you can bore various sizes of holes. However, you cannot bore a deeper hole than the 1/4th of an inch through this thin bit. So, you can only use it on thin metal surfaces, not on hard metals.

Step Drill
This drill rotates clockwise in metal sheets step by step. Each step enlarges the previous hole while the smallest bit doesn’t require any pilot drill to start the drilling process. On the other side, the larger bits always require a pre-drilled hole. There is a central punch to decide at which position, the hole will be. This central punch helps in creating a pilot hole. And, a pilot hole is enough to describe the precision and accuracy in drilling.

Well, you should always drill at a very slow speed with the right amount of pressure and torque. If you keep the speed faster, it will generate great heat on the metal surface which can damage the bit. Keep the speed slow and pressure high to initiate the hole. After drilling the pilot hole, now you can release some pressure for further drilling.

Let’s understand its design which has several steps of different diameter, from the tip to its ground level, each for creating different size of holes. Thus, it is named so and can be used for various purposes and for various applications, especially for countersink and counterbore. So, don’t forget to keep a step bit in your tool box.
